Here are the great information packed courses that are being offered during this 5-day conference.
PRESENTERS: Collin Seale, Founder & CEO of thinklaw
Brilliance is distributed equally, but too often, opportunity is not. The COVID-19 pandemic has given us the strongest possible case for prioritizing critical thinking instruction, but we still treat critical thinking as a luxury good. Equity requires educators to remove the systemic barriers far too many students face to unleashing their critical thinking potential. This workshop outlines powerful but practical tools educators can apply immediately to close the critical thinking gap using easy-to-integrate, curriculum-agnostic “Thinking Like a Lawyer” strategies that help students transition from asking “what” and “how-to” to asking “why” and “what-if”.
PRESENTERS: Todd Zoellick, Lawyer
The law is a set of rules and requirements that govern actions, while ethics are guidelines that inform how we should act in certain situations. These two concepts, law and ethics, are not mutually exclusive. Ethics and the law can, and should, coexist in a professional environment. As we provide services to students with special needs in schools or clinical settings, it is important that practitioners operate within the law while still maintaining ethical obligations both to the student and to the profession. In this course we will explore the practical intersection of law and ethics as it informs practice while maintaining legal compliance.
PRESENTERS: Timothy Kretchman, Former SPED Director
Participants will consider and explore their school’s approach to prereferral interventions. Participants will be introduced to a two-tiered approach of planning and implementing instructional and supportive interventions.
PRESENTERS: Sandy Juniper, M.Ed
Educators will learn how their own social-emotional state impacts themselves and their students through the nervous system’s innate response to stress. Additionally, educators will learn how self care and mindfulness practices can enable them to be calm, regulated “anchors” who are empowered to create safe, supportive classrooms “containers” in which students will thrive.
PRESENTERS: Chris Bugaj, M.A. CCC-SLP
Students of all abilities head off to kindergarden with bright smiles eager for the journey of discovery and with a passion for learning. Then, somewhere along the way, school becomes a chore. It transforms from an experience students want to do into something they have to do. For many, one of the first lessons they learn in school is that they are not good at it. Let’s shift that paradigm by rethinking how we design educational experiences to empower every student to embrace their passion for learning. This session will invite participants to explore how technology can be used to empower learners of all abilities. Come to the session as an educator, leave transformed as an Inclusive Educational Experience Designer.
