Dr. A. T. Thressiakutty believed and devoted her career for economic development, Self-advocacy and supported independent living for persons with intellectual disabilities. She has initiated a legacy of quality services through such innovative practices. Through her personal initiation, perseverance and her unswerving efforts, she has touched the lives of both parents as well as persons with intellectual disabilities. As a teacher educator she inspired many professionals by her valuable mentorship. She has been an expert member in various committees related to development of vocational curriculum and skill training for persons with intellectual disabilities. She is also an accomplished researcher with many national and international publications to her credit. She received National award from the president of India for her outstanding services to persons with disability in 1995. Bharat jyoti award from India International friendship society. ‘Glory of India’ Gold medal from international institute of success awareness, Best citizen Award and Life-time Achievement Award from Women International network. After M.Ed and M.Phil. she completed her PhD at Osmania University, Hyderabad.
After 18 years of service as a faculty she retired from the National Institute for the Mentally Handicapped, Secunderabad in 2002. Currently she stays at Nalla Samarayan Ashram under We Care Centre, Kanjirappally Diocese and extends her services to Asha Nilayam Special School, Ashwas Farm school for persons with Intellectual Disability and women with Mental Health Disorders at Nallla Samarayan Ashram, Kerala.
